Phyllis was born and raised in St. Paul. She holds a B.A. degree from Macalester College and often has served as a guest lecturer in Sociology "Family Values" classes.
She has twin married sons and three "wonderful" grandchildren.
Phyllis feels that she is fortunate to have had two fulfilling careers, one as a high school teacher of English, French, and Social Studies and the other as a Geriatric Social Worker for Ramsey and Dakota Counties and Director of Social Services of four local nursing homes.
She has appeared in four movies and three T.V. commercials, some of which were nationally distributed.
In addition to the "Klondike Kate" 1996, title, she has also held the
following titles:
Ms. Minnesota Senior (Senior America)
Mpls. Aquatennial Senior Queen
Ms. Senior Sweetheart of Minnesota
Ms. St. Paul Senior (Senior America)
Mrs. St. Paul
Phyllis has been an active member of community theaters most of her adult life and continues to take part in local productions.
For many years, she and her late husband, Lenny, a well known Twin Cities musician, performed, professionally, in and around the Twin Cities, and they took great pleasure in being able to do so. Phyllis has sung with Dixieland and other bands since college. She has performed in California, Reno, and in Las Vegas on the Main stage of New York, New York Hotel and Casino, The Barbary Coast, The Dunes Hotel and Casino, and The Palace Station. She has also been a soloist at the LaCrosse, Wisc. Great River Jazz Festival.
Since she is the Senior member of the "Klondike Kates," she is semi-retired but does perform with the group several times a year.
Phyllis says that she looks back on her years with the "Klondike Kates" as one of the hilights of her singing career, and reveres the relationships she has with other "Kates." |
